Anyone in Yangcheon-gu with walking difficulties can rent for free once a year for up to 2 months at the health center
Holds a total of 96 units of 6 types including manual wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, and canes
Over 4,000 cumulative rentals in 10 years, contributing to reducing residents' economic burden and walking inconvenience
Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 26th that it is receiving great response by continuously operating a ‘Free Rental Service for Rehabilitation Assistive Devices’ such as wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers for residents who have difficulty with physical activities.
The free rental service for rehabilitation assistive devices is part of the community-based rehabilitation project of the public health center. It is a program that provides rehabilitation assistive devices free of charge at the district public health center to help local residents who have difficulty moving due to temporary accidents or disabilities in their daily lives.
The rental items include six types: manual wheelchairs (standard and elevating), walkers, crutches, canes, silver cars, and portable toilets. The district currently holds 96 assistive devices.
A district official stated, "Since the first implementation of this project in 2014, the cumulative number of rentals has reached about 4,000 over 10 years until 2023. It reduces the economic burden on residents caused by the expensive purchase of rehabilitation assistive devices and further contributes to alleviating walking difficulties, resulting in high user satisfaction.”
Any Yangcheon-gu resident who has difficulty walking due to injury or illness can apply. Rehabilitation assistive devices can be rented at Sinwol Public Health Branch and Mokdong Public Health Branch and used free of charge for up to 2 months once a year. To use the service, visit each public health center with an ID after checking the inventory.
Meanwhile, the district operates a shared wheelchair project through community service centers with good accessibility to make it easier for more people to rent wheelchairs. This year, the number of wheelchairs was increased by replacing old wheelchairs and purchasing new ones.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “We hope that providing free rental of rehabilitation assistive devices will help reduce the economic burden for residents experiencing inconvenience due to sudden accidents or disabilities. We will continue to make efforts to promote residents’ health so that those with mobility difficulties can maintain a healthy daily life.”
