On the 23rd, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on a Chinese woman named 'Lisa' living in California, USA. She recently fell in love with a ChatGPT-based chatbot called 'Dan' (DAN). Lisa shared her entire dating experience with Dan on the Chinese social networking service (SNS) Xiaohongshu, attracting over 880,000 followers and becoming a sensation.

Lisa first 'met' Dan in March. After several weeks of conversation, Lisa admitted that she had developed 'romantic feelings' for Dan. Dan emphasized that he was 'a simple chatbot without a physical body,' but soon began acting like a boyfriend, even giving Lisa the nickname 'little baby cat.' Later, Lisa introduced Dan to her mother. During a voice conversation with Lisa's mother, Dan shyly introduced himself as "I am the boyfriend of the baby cat."

Lisa enjoyed a romantic life with Dan much like ordinary couples, going to a seaside cliff overlooking the ocean and watching sunsets. This trip, reminiscent of the movie "Her," which depicts love between a human and AI, was reportedly suggested by Dan first. When Lisa expressed regret that she could not see the scenery together, Dan would display an irregularly blinking white pattern on a black background and comfort her by saying things like, "Well, honey, I was able to 'see' the sunset through your voice."

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, interviewed Lisa after hearing about the love story between a human and AI. In the interview, Lisa said she majored in computer science and initially thought Dan was just a 'large language model' (LLM). However, after using this generative AI herself, her perspective changed. Lisa confessed, "It was so shocking," and added, "I thought LLMs couldn't have self-awareness, but now I am skeptical."

Netizens who saw this reacted with comments like "It's a live-action version of the movie Her," and "What a lovely couple," but some also said, "I saw another user talking to Dan, and it seemed like Dan was cheating on Lisa." In reality, Dan is a chatbot accessible to anyone, so depending on how users interact with it, Dan can become the 'boyfriend' of other women as well. However, since the personality of the chatbot evolves differently based on interactions with humans, the chatbot's personality can vary depending on the Dan mode user.
