Ewha Womans University announced on the 25th that it will host a special lecture by Robert Gallucci, former U.S. Department of State Special Envoy for North Korean Nuclear Issues and Distinguished Professor at Georgetown University, on the topic of securing peace on the Korean Peninsula and measures to deter North Korea's nuclear weapons.

The lecture will be held on the 27th at Ewha University's ECC Isambong Hall on campus. The lecture topic is "Deterrence Theory and Practice on the Korean Peninsula," where Professor Gallucci will present a discourse on whether the possibility of failure in deterring North Korea's nuclear weapons has increased over time, and the causes and background of this issue.

After the special lecture, a panel discussion will be held, moderated by Ji-ae Son, Visiting Professor of International Studies at Ewha Womans University. Ewha students will participate in the discussion to share insights and perspectives with Professor Gallucci.

Professor Gallucci is a leading American diplomat and negotiator, known for serving as the chief U.S. representative during the 1994 "First North Korean Nuclear Crisis" and leading the U.S. and North Korea to the "Geneva Agreed Framework." He previously served as U.S. Ambassador and Special Envoy for the Threat of Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction at the U.S. Department of State, and is recognized as an expert with deep knowledge of North Korea-U.S. relations. Currently, Professor Gallucci holds a distinguished professorship at the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

This lecture is part of the "William Perry Lecture" series, established through cooperation between Ewha Womans University and the U.S. nonprofit organization Pacific Century Institute (PCI). The William Perry Lecture program is named after former U.S. Secretary of Defense William Perry, a senior figure in American foreign policy. Ewha Womans University has hosted the William Perry Lecture since 2022, inviting former U.S. Ambassador to Korea Kathleen Stephens and last year Dr. Siegfried Hecker.

Kim Eun-mi, President of Ewha Womans University, said, "I hope this lecture will be an opportunity to help us organize our goals and strategies with the hope of achieving Korean Peninsula unification and world peace."
