All Sectors Unite to Attract Bio-Specialized Complex 'Hwasun'

‘2024 Hwasun Saengmyeong Society Forum’ Meeting Held

Various sectors have come together to collaborate and unite their efforts to attract the national advanced strategic project, the bio-specialized complex, to Hwasun.

According to Hwasun County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) on the 24th, the “2024 Hwasun Life Society Forum (Chairman Beom Hee-seung) Meeting” was held under the auspices of the Jeonnam Bio Promotion Agency’s Biopharmaceutical Center.

The meeting was attended by about 40 related personnel, including Gu Bok-gyu, Governor of Hwasun County; Im Ji-rak and Ryu Ki-jun, members of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly; Beom Hee-seung, Chairman of the Hwasun Life Society Forum; Jo Young-rae, Superintendent of Hwasun Office of Education; Min Jeong-jun, Director of Hwasun Jeonbuk National University Hospital; Yoon Ho-yeol, Director of the Jeonnam Bio Promotion Agency; Park Ki-young, Professor of Biomedical Science at Suncheon National University; Choi Cheol-woong, Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Chosun University (Chairman of the Biohealth Subcommittee); and Ryu Kang, Director of the Hwasun Bio Industry Center (Secretary General).

The meeting proceeded in the order of the 2024 forum operation plan, a special lecture on the overall bio industry, and an event to pray for the attraction of the national advanced strategic industry bio-specialized complex.

In his welcoming remarks, Chairman Beom Hee-seung said, “It is a great honor to serve as the second chairman following my role as the inaugural secretary general of the Hwasun Life Society Forum,” adding, “As the Hwasun Life Society Forum is a consultative body comprising industry, academia, research, medical, and government sectors, it should be a place where practical and realistic discussions take place in each field.”

He continued, “The Hwasun Life Society Forum will actively continue the consensus and communication of the consultative body to attract the Jeonnam-Gwangju Advanced Medical Complex and advance toward a leading life society,” expressing his vision and commitment to the forum’s role.

Gu Bok-gyu, Governor of Hwasun County, said, “I believe that the future growth engine for Hwasun to strategically respond to the rapidly aging society and regional extinction is the vaccine and bio industry,” and added, “I ask for your great interest and valuable opinions so that Hwasun can become the center of Korea’s bio industry.”

Secretary General Ryu Kang introduced the 2024 forum operation plan, and Yoon Ho-yeol, Director of the Jeonnam Bio Promotion Agency, gave a special lecture on the overall bio industry. The event concluded with a ceremony praying for the attraction of the national advanced strategic industry bio-specialized complex to Hwasun, which the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is scheduled to announce the selection of next month.

The main 2024 forum operation plans include ▲ mutual cooperation to attract the national advanced strategic industry bio-specialized complex and the Jeonnam-Gwangju Advanced Medical Complex and to revitalize the bio-medical cluster ▲ participation in the 2024 International Pharmaceutical and Bio Industry Exhibition ▲ hosting technology seminars inviting bio-pharmaceutical companies ▲ participation in the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering Autumn Conference ▲ holding educational and promotional events for high school and university students in Gwangju and Jeonnam for the development of Hwasun’s bio industry ▲ holding policy meetings for resident institutions and companies in the Hwasun Vaccine Industry Special Zone.

The forum was established in 2022 as a consultative body comprising industry, academia, research, medical, and government sectors to revitalize the Hwasun Vaccine Industry Special Zone, attract the Jeonnam-Gwangju Advanced Medical Complex, and advance a leading life society.

Currently, it is composed of four subcommittees and is seeking various activities and policy strategies to attract the national advanced strategic industry bio-specialized complex, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Advanced Medical Complex, and build an advanced life society.
