Busan City will hold the '2024 Wood Culture Festival' on the 25th and 26th at Songnim Park in Haeundae.
This event is jointly hosted by the Korea Forest Service, Busan City, and Haeundae District, and is supported by the Busan City Forestry Cooperative, Busan Forest Kindergarten Association, and others.
The Wood Culture Festival is an annual event organized by the Korea Forest Service together with local governments to promote the proper use and excellence of domestic wood. This year marks its 12th edition, held in Busan under the theme 'Practicing Carbon Neutrality through the Use of Wood in Everyday Life.'
In 2022, the festival was held in Daegu, and in 2023, in Suncheon.
This year's event features a variety of wood-related programs, including the Mokhonsik (Wood Wedding Ceremony, 25th), the Ddookddak Ddookddak Wood King Contest (25th-26th), the Ddookddak Ddookddak Mok Sori Talk Show (25th-26th), Dad's Table (26th), and Wood Experience activities (25th-26th).
The Mokhonsik is an event where couples exchange wooden gifts to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary. Originating from Western traditions, five couples will be selected for this event. Participants will receive a one-night, two-day wood wedding trip accommodation voucher, outdoor snapshot photography at the expo venue, and custom wooden dress rentals.
Dad's Table is a cooking competition where 20 fathers, together with Chef Lee Kwanhee, use domestic wooden cooking tools and local specialties from Busan City.
The wood experience programs include making cutting boards and wooden keychains for the whole family, and flowerpots planted with spring flowers and various herbs will also be distributed.
The opening ceremony of the 2024 Wood Culture Festival will be held at 1:30 PM on the 25th at Songnim Park in Haeundae.
The head of the Korea Forest Service, the Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, the Deputy Head of Haeundae District, and about 200 local residents are expected to attend and celebrate the opening.
Kim Kwanghoe, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, said, "We are very pleased to hold the Wood Culture Festival in Busan, an event that helps future generations realize the value of carbon neutrality," and added, "The city will continue to do its best to achieve a carbon-neutral green smart city. We ask for the interest and participation of many citizens in this event."
