"Reducing Plastic Use Is Vital for Humanity's Future"
Next Participants: Seonghwan Kim, CEO of Korea Investment & Securities
Seonggeun Lee, President of Busan Textile Fashion Industry Association Nominated
Byungoh Choi, Chairman of Fashion Group Hyungji, participated in the 'Bye Bye Plastic' challenge aimed at environmental protection. Chairman Choi also serves as the President of the Korea Federation of Textile Industries.
According to Fashion Group Hyungji on May 24, this campaign, organized by the Ministry of Environment, encourages people to adopt habits that reduce plastic use in daily life. The campaign includes practical actions such as refusing single-use items when ordering delivery, minimizing unnecessary use of plastic bags, taking responsibility for proper waste separation, and reducing the use of wet wipes and plastic straws.
Chairman Choi joined the campaign after being nominated by Byungkyu Cho, President of Woori Bank. For the next participants, Chairman Choi nominated Seonghwan Kim, CEO of Korea Investment & Securities, and Seonggeun Lee, President of the Busan Textile Fashion Industry Association.
To participate in the challenge, individuals should take a photo or video of themselves waving both hands, symbolizing 'Bye,' and include a message about reducing plastic use. The next participants are then nominated, and the post should be shared on social media with the required hashtags (#MinistryofEnvironment #ByeByePlastic #BBP).
Chairman Choi stated, "I believe the campaign to reduce plastic use is extremely important for the sustainable future of humanity," and added, "Textile and fashion professionals will actively participate in reducing plastic use and promoting resource circulation, starting with small actions in daily life."
Meanwhile, Fashion Group Hyungji is focusing on eco-friendly management, including the development of sustainable textile materials and recycling of discarded clothing. Since launching the ESG Green Future Center in 2021, the company has developed functional antibacterial materials, vegan leather using corn and bamboo, and recycled PET bottles and waste textiles, as well as eco-friendly uniforms and school uniforms made from recycled domestic PET bottles. Last year, the company also ran the 'Cool Korea Energy Saving Campaign' to encourage energy conservation with eco-cool material clothing.
