Created 12 Key Practical Activities in Environment, Society, and Governance Fields by Introducing Gangnam-style ESG Vision into 5 Standard Childcare Curriculum Courses
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) plans to introduce the Gangnam-style ESG vision into the standard childcare curriculum of daycare centers and promote 12 key practical activities.
This year, the district, which is establishing an ESG administrative system as a priority project, will promote the "Daycare Center ESG Project" so that children, the future generation, can naturally learn the ESG vision aimed at a sustainable future. The existing five courses?health and safety, communication, social relationships, artistic experience, and nature exploration?have been integrated with the ESG vision. The main activities by sector are as follows.
In the environmental sector, activities such as ▲utilizing eco-friendly teaching materials and tools ▲operating resource recycling and carbon neutrality programs ▲experiencing ecological parks and engaging in nature conservation activities ▲participating in internal and external environmental protection events will be further activated.
In the social sector, activities include ▲helping neighbors, visiting senior centers, markets, and multicultural experiences ▲strengthening daycare center safety, health, and hygiene ▲education for childcare staff to prevent child abuse ▲programs to enhance social skills and cooperation.
The governance sector includes ▲disclosure of results from daycare center operation committees and other information transparency ▲daycare center management reflecting parents' and teachers' opinions ▲human rights education for childcare staff and spreading a culture of mutual respect ▲fair recruitment and equal treatment of childcare staff.
Accordingly, on May 2nd, five daycare centers took their first step in ESG practice activities by conducting ecological experiences and plogging activities at Daemosan Ecological Park. Going forward, various programs will be operated to understand and communicate with the local community by visiting public institutions such as fire stations, police stations, post offices, as well as markets and marts.
Additionally, to strengthen governance between the district and daycare centers, support will be provided for daycare centers to participate in various district projects such as environment, safety, and health. The district will also hold contests for excellent daycare center ESG management cases and disseminate best practices through performance presentations.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “We will nurture children as future talents who understand and practice carbon neutrality and social responsibility from an early age,” and added, “We will actively discover ESG cooperation projects linking the district, daycare centers, and private companies.”
