Lawyer Park Hun's Advice to Kim Hojoong 11 Years Ago: "Drink Alcohol Slowly"

Lawyer Park Hoon, known as the real-life model for the movie 'Broken Arrow,' recalled meeting singer Kim Ho-joong 11 years ago and said that he advised him at the time to "drink alcohol slowly."

On the 23rd, Lawyer Park began his post on his Facebook by saying, "I met Kim Ho-joong in 2013 at an event in his hometown, Ulsan." At that time, Park gave an outdoor lecture at the event, and Kim Ho-joong sang as an assistant during the lecture. Park recalled that "he (Kim Ho-joong) was about 21 years old, gaining fame with the movie 'Papa Roach' starring Han Suk-kyu and Lee Je-hoon, while I was traveling nationwide for judicial reform issues with 'Broken Arrow.'"

Park said, "I had no idea that he (Kim Ho-joong) debuted as a singer after a trot competition," adding, "Only recently did I realize he is a successful singer alongside Lim Young-woong in trot." He also wrote, "After more than 10 years, when I saw his face, it was not the face I knew," and "I thought he would grow into a classical vocalist, so it was quite surprising that he became a trot singer."

Park continued, "After 10 years, when I saw his absurd behavior and heard that his last performance was at the Changwon Indoor Gymnasium, I suddenly remembered what I told Kim Ho-joong." That phrase was, "Hey, drink alcohol slowly, who’s chasing you?" He also recalled feeding him pajeon (Korean pancake). Kim had a habit of drinking alcohol quickly since his early 20s, about 10 years ago. Park also mentioned that he and Kim drank together for several hours at an after-party.

Park expressed his feelings about Kim Ho-joong, calling him "a truly unfortunate friend," and said, "I also resent those who promoted him at a young age." He concluded his post with the words, "A movie about a 21-year-old life..." referring to the movie 'Papa Roach,' which is about Kim Ho-joong’s high school days, music, and life. The 2013 film 'Papa Roach' tells the story of a genius classical singer and delinquent (Lee Je-hoon) who meets a rural arts high school music teacher (Han Suk-kyu), overcomes his past, and fulfills his dream of becoming a classical singer.

Meanwhile, Kim Ho-joong’s side, who has been charged with offenses including 'drunk hit-and-run,' requested to postpone the detention hearing scheduled for the 24th until after his concert, but the court did not accept the request. Accordingly, the detention hearing for Kim will proceed as scheduled on the 24th at noon, presided over by Judge Shin Young-hee of the Seoul Central District Court’s warrant division.

Kim was involved in an accident around 11:40 p.m. on the 9th, driving under the influence and colliding with a taxi on the opposite side of a road in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, before fleeing the scene. Lee Kwang-deuk, CEO of Kim’s agency, is accused of instructing Kim’s manager to falsely surrender after the accident, and former director Jeon is charged with removing the black box memory card from Kim’s vehicle.

The police applied charges against Kim on the 22nd, including violation of the Specific Crimes Aggravated Punishment Act (hit-and-run causing injury and dangerous driving causing injury), violation of the Road Traffic Act (failure to take measures after an accident), and aiding a criminal’s escape, and requested an arrest warrant. They also requested arrest warrants for CEO Lee on charges of aiding a criminal’s escape, and for former director Jeon on charges of aiding a criminal’s escape and evidence tampering.

Despite the arrest warrant request, Kim’s side announced that the classical concert 'World Union Orchestra Super Classic: Kim Ho-joong & Primadonna,' scheduled for the 23rd and 24th at the KSPO Dome (Gymnastics Stadium) in Seoul Olympic Park, will proceed as planned. However, the 'Kim Ho-joong Tbarroti Classic Arena Tour 2024' concert, scheduled for the 1st and 2nd of next month in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, has been canceled. Kim will suspend all activities and enter self-reflection after the concert on the 24th.
