Gwangju Dong-gu Signs Agreement to Open Shared Parking Lots to Alleviate Downtown Parking Shortage

Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, recently signed a business agreement with applicant organizations to designate and open shared parking lots, and is now actively promoting the project.

Dong-gu signed a business agreement for the designation and opening of shared parking lots with representatives from three applicant organizations for the shared parking lot activation project?Jungang Elementary School, Gwangju Seoseok Church, and Korea National University of Arts?at the district office reception room.

Previously, applications were received for parking lots at religious facilities, schools, and private facilities willing to open their lots. The appropriateness of the parking lot opening areas and the support project plans were reviewed through a support review committee. As a result, an agreement was made to open 258 spaces across three locations, including Jungang Elementary School.

The shared parking lots will be opened to residents after renovation and support projects are completed, following the support review committee’s decision and the application for support projects related to the pre-opening of shared parking lots. Detailed information on the opening schedule and operation methods will be announced later.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "I hope the shared parking lots will help alleviate residents’ parking inconveniences and revitalize the local commercial areas. We will continue to expand shared parking lots in areas with insufficient parking spaces to establish a sharing culture and create a better Dong-gu to live in."
