"We are looking for distinctive names for the four major attractions created through the Baegun Plaza area urban regeneration project, including the Pureungil Bridge. We hope that those selected through the contest will enjoy the joy and honor of being the creators, as the chosen names will be used for a lifetime."
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is holding a naming contest for Baegunhorangi, the representative content of the Pureungil Bridge, which is the cornerstone of economic revitalization around Baegun Plaza, as well as the Street Food Zone and the Saturday Night Market.
According to Nam-gu on the 23rd, the Baegun Plaza urban regeneration naming contest will run until June 17.
The contest aims to increase interest in the Baegun Plaza area urban regeneration project by finding attractive names that highlight each feature, while promoting the revitalization of the local economy around Baegun Plaza.
This naming contest is open to all citizens of the Republic of Korea.
Submissions should be concise names that encapsulate the identity of the four attractions, are original, easy to pronounce for all ages and genders, and memorable for a long time.
Participants may submit names for all four categories at once or enter only the categories they wish to name.
However, names currently in use, already registered patents, or English names are not allowed to promote the use of the Korean language.
To participate, download the related documents from the Nam-gu Office website's public notice section, and submit them via email to the person in charge between June 13 and 17.
The evaluation criteria include symbolism, creativity, suitability, and popularity.
Nam-gu plans to select five excellent proposals per category in the first professional review, then conduct a Q&A session with the proposers in the second review to select the final winners.
The results will be announced on July 8 through the Nam-gu Office website. One grand prize winner and two excellence awardees per category will receive prize money of 2 million KRW and 500,000 KRW respectively.
A Nam-gu official said, "We are looking for friendly and approachable new names so that Baegun Plaza can become an attractive place representing Gwangju. We ask for your great interest and participation."
