National Pukyong University (President Jang Youngsoo) has been finally selected as a “2024 Software (SW) Centered University” by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation.
This project is a large-scale new initiative that selects a total of 17 four-year universities nationwide with SW-related departments to foster creative SW convergence talents who will lead the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, supporting innovation in educational systems and the training of specialized convergence talents.
With this selection, National Pukyong University will receive a total project budget of 18 billion KRW over up to eight years and plans to foster over 100 AI and SW majors and convergence talents annually.
Song Hajoo, Dean of the College of Information Convergence, will lead the project, and the Department of Computer and Artificial Intelligence Engineering will focus on strengthening SW major competencies. Non-SW departments, including the Department of Data and Information Science, Department of Media and Communication, Department of Smart Healthcare, and Department of Electronic Information and Communication, will also participate to promote the SW convergence talent training project.
In addition, the university plans to strengthen cooperation with related organizations such as domestic and international partner universities, public institutions, local governments, and relevant companies through joint project implementation to expand AI and SW education and spread its value in the region.
National Pukyong University has set its vision as “Southeast Region Innovation Digital Hub AI/SW Convergence Talent” and plans to reorganize its AI and SW major curriculum with the goal of “4Able Talent Development,” which consists of four strategies: ▲SW new technology specialization ▲field-adaptive end-to-end education ▲regional industry convergence courses ▲systematic and continuous verification systems. The university will also expand the base of AI and SW education and improve educational infrastructure.
Song Hajoo, Dean of the College of Information Convergence, said, “We expect this project to serve as an opportunity for National Pukyong University to become the center for nurturing AI and SW talents who will lead the digital transformation of regional industries.”
