National Mokpo University and Jeonnam Provincial University Kick Off 'University Integration Promotion Joint Committee' Meeting

Playing a Key Role in National Balanced Development, Advancing as a Glocal University

National Mokpo University (President Song Ha-cheol) and Jeonnam Provincial College (President Jo Myung-rae) announced on the 23rd that they held a kickoff meeting of the "Joint Committee for University Integration Promotion" on the 22nd at the Mokpo University Smart Conference Room, with the participation of the presidents and related personnel of both universities.

At this meeting, they discussed △preliminary analysis of integration issues between the two universities △university integration plans to create a healthy higher education ecosystem in the region △strategies for operating a competitive integrated university △schedules for promoting the joint integration committee.

Both universities plan to lead innovation for coexistence with the region as universities specializing in regional talent development through integration, playing a key role in national balanced development and advancing as glocal universities.

Jeonnam Provincial College President Jo Myung-rae said, “Jeonnam Provincial College and National Mokpo University are promoting university integration based on mutual trust. Through this, we will enable the establishment of a continuous development system among Jeonnam Province, local governments, and universities, and contribute the university’s capabilities so that National Mokpo University can be officially designated as a glocal university in 2024.”

National Mokpo University President Song Ha-cheol responded, “Having been finally selected as a glocal university in 2024, we will do our best to lay the foundation for becoming the largest global hub national university in the Jeonnam region that leads regional development and growth by establishing a Jeonnam regional base campus through the integration of the two universities.”

The Joint Committee for University Integration Promotion is composed equally of representatives from both universities, including members of each university’s community. They plan to complete practical discussions on integration by the end of next month, gather opinions from both universities and the region, and establish a continuous support system with Jeonnam Province and local governments to proceed with the university integration process.

Meanwhile, National Mokpo University and Jeonnam Provincial College signed a memorandum of understanding for university integration promotion on January 11 and have been continuously discussing university specialization and entry into glocal university status.

National Mokpo University was selected as a preliminary designated university for the 2024 Glocal University 30 on the 16th of last month and is preparing for the official designation evaluation of the glocal university scheduled for August.
