Gadeokdo New Airport Construction Challenges and Solutions, Expert Panel Discussion on Marine, Geotechnical, and Environmental Fields
On the 23rd at 2 p.m., Busan Metropolitan City will hold the "Gadeokdo New Airport Eco-friendly Construction Technology Symposium" at the City Hall International Conference Hall under the theme of "Realizing Busan as a Central City of Korea and a Global Hub City."
This academic symposium is jointly hosted by the city, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Korean Professional Engineers Association, and the Busan Professional Engineers Association.
The symposium will consist of presentations on research topics related to the marine, soil and ground, and environmental aspects of the Gadeokdo New Airport construction; a panel discussion with experts from each field; and a Q&A session.
For the marine field, Yoo Byunghwa, CEO of Daeyoung Engineering, will present on "Marine Engineering Challenges and Solutions in the Construction of Gadeokdo New Airport." For the soil and ground field, Jung Kyunghwan, professor at Youngnam Construction Technology Education Institute, will present on "Improvement of Soft Ground for Gadeokdo New Airport." For the environmental field, Oh Hyuntaek, center director at the National Institute of Fisheries Science, will deliver the keynote presentation.
The expert panel discussion will include Kim Kaya, city policy advisor; Kim Taehyung, professor at Korea Maritime and Ocean University; Lee Jihyung, member of the Local Environmental Dispute Mediation Committee; Kang Heeseong, head of the City Airport Planning Division; and Hong Bokui, head of the Gadeokdo New Airport Support Team at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. They will discuss solutions to challenges and policy proposals related to airport construction.
This academic symposium is being held as part of the "Business Agreement for Technical Cooperation on the Realization of a Global Hub City and Key Projects," signed last December between the city and the Korean Professional Engineers Association. Starting with this symposium, the city and the association plan to maintain ongoing cooperation to realize "Global Hub City Busan."
The two organizations will continue to support the airport construction project, facilitate passenger and logistics integration, propose optimal and rapid construction plans befitting the status of a gateway airport for the southern region, and help establish core infrastructure.
Kim Kwanghoe, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, stated, "We have organized this academic symposium jointly with the Korean Professional Engineers Association and the Busan Professional Engineers Association, the top expert groups in the technology field. I ask for the active interest and participation of citizens in this symposium, which will serve as a venue for sharing various research and information related to the construction of Gadeokdo New Airport. We will work together to actively realize Busan as a central city of Korea and a global hub city."
