"I Cannot Follow Such a Party Line"... Kim Ung Opposes Party Line on Voting Against Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Bill

"The party's stance is taken at the risk of the party's fate to protect the wronged"

Regarding the People Power Party's intention to make opposing votes the party line in the vote on the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act (the Act on the Appointment of a Special Prosecutor for the Investigation of Obstruction and Concealment of the Death of a Marine), Representative Kim Woong publicly expressed his opposition.

On the 22nd, Representative Kim stated through social media (SNS), "A party line should be established by risking the party's fate to protect the powerless and the wronged," adding, "The People Power Party should empower the people, not show off power to them."

He continued, "I cannot follow such a party line," and said, "I believe providence will guide us."

Earlier, on the 2nd, during the plenary vote on the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act, Representative Kim was the only member of the People Power Party to remain in the plenary hall and cast a vote in favor. He also repeatedly expressed support for the re-vote on the Act following President Yoon Seok-yeol's exercise of the veto power.

Besides Representative Kim, Representatives Ahn Cheol-soo and Yoo Ui-dong have also expressed their intention to vote in favor.

However, the People Power Party held a meeting of senior lawmakers the day before and agreed to adopt opposing votes as the party line. Party Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho stated, "We will unite without any deviation and gather all members to act in unison to enforce our party line on this matter."
