"Shocking Scene"... Australian McDonald's Part-Timer Wrapping a Mop in a French Fry Machine

Australia McDonald's: "We Will Thoroughly Conduct Hygiene Training"

At a McDonald's store in Australia, a staff member was caught drying a mop on the French fry warmer, sparking hygiene concerns locally.

On the 22nd (local time), the New York Post and others reported that at a McDonald's store in a Brisbane suburb, an employee dried a mop on the heating lamp of the French fry warmer, drawing criticism from customers. Above the French fry fryer, there is a warmer that emits heat to keep the fries warm. The employee dried the mop under this warmer.

Customer Debbie Barakat, who witnessed the scene, said, "I was completely shocked by what I saw," claiming the employee dried the mop for about a minute. Other employees reportedly saw this but did not intervene. The problematic employee is said to have cleaned the floor with the mop and then, despite the presence of customers, detached the mop head and dried it on the French fry warmer.

Angry customers protested via email, and the store manager responded, "We are taking corrective measures to ensure similar incidents do not recur, so please rest assured." As the controversy grew, a spokesperson for McDonald's Australia emphasized, "We take food safety very seriously and follow strict cleaning and hygiene procedures at all our restaurants." They added, "We have directly addressed this issue with the concerned location and conducted thorough retraining on McDonald's hygiene and food safety for all employees."

However, local netizens have expressed critical reactions toward the employee's lack of hygiene awareness. One netizen, along with a vomiting emoji, said, "I was shocked by how many safety and hygiene violations occurred while working at McDonald's." Other netizens responded with comments such as, "Two pure beef patties on a sesame mop, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions," "I can't believe there's no hygiene concept like this," and "It's so gross I can't go there."
