Passed 8 Evaluations in 2 Weeks After Application... 55 Related Projects Underway
Mayor Sang-il Lee: "Creating a City Where Everyone Thrives Beyond Gender and Generations"
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that it has received certification for membership in the Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities (GNAFCC) from the World Health Organization (WHO).
GNAFCC is a global project initiated by WHO in 2006 to effectively address issues that may arise in an aging society. Certification requires passing evaluations in eight areas essential for an age-friendly society, including housing, transportation, and social participation.
The city explained that this certification internationally recognizes the excellence of its policies aimed at solving aging society issues on multiple levels. Currently, 1,540 cities in 52 countries worldwide have received this certification. The city added that it passed the WHO evaluation just two weeks after applying on the 2nd, making it the fastest certification ever received.
Building on this certification, the city plans to establish the vision of "Yongin Special City ? creating special future together with all generations" to foster an age-friendly city, and will promote 55 detailed projects across eight major areas.
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, said, "With this certification, Yongin has become a city certified as age-friendly in three major areas: women, children, and the elderly," adding, "We will strive even harder so that all citizens, regardless of generation or gender, can live happier and better lives."
