Gwanak-gu Takes the Lead in Preventing Major Accidents at Public and National Childcare Centers

"The scope of the Serious Accident Punishment Act has expanded, and I was quite overwhelmed by the unfamiliar terms and preparation procedures I heard for the first time. Facing a task I had never encountered before was daunting, but having an expert visit in person to carefully check the risk factors and provide concrete directions will be a great help," said a representative from Gwanak-gu Public Dawon Daycare Center, expressing their expectations.

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has launched a 'Safety and Health Management System Establishment Consulting' targeting public daycare centers to prevent serious accidents.

This consulting is organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA). Experts from private specialized institutions that have agreements with KOSHA will visit workplaces 4 to 5 times over a period of 5 to 6 months, providing tailored expert advice suited to the characteristics of each daycare center.

In line with the recent expansion of the application scope of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, the district decided to participate in this consulting to support the creation of a safe childcare environment and the establishment of an independent safety and health management system within local daycare centers. All 78 public daycare centers in Gwanak-gu plan to participate in this consulting.

The target is daycare centers in the area with 5 or more regular employees that face difficulties in establishing a safety and health management system.

The main consulting contents include ▲ management leadership and worker participation within the workplace ▲ identification of risk factors related to serious accidents ▲ risk assessment such as elimination, substitution, and control of risk factors ▲ establishment of a safety and health management system ▲ disclosure of worker safety and health information and preparation of participation procedures ▲ securing elements for building a safety and health management system ▲ continuous improvement and establishment of system inspection procedures.

Park Junhee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, "Creating a safe childcare environment is of utmost importance for the healthy growth of our future leaders, the young children. In addition to this consulting project, Gwanak-gu will prepare various educational programs on its own and do its best to prevent serious accidents."
