Sentenced to 3 Years Imprisonment in First Trial
The prosecution has requested the court to sentence Hwang Ui-jo's (31, Alanyaspor) sister-in-law to four years in prison on charges of exposing and threatening the soccer player's private life.
On the 22nd, during the appeal trial of A, Hwang's sister-in-law, on charges including filming and distribution using a camera under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, held at the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 14-1 (Presiding Judges Park Hye-seon, Oh Young-sang, Lim Jong-hyo), the prosecution made this sentencing request.
The prosecution stated, "Although the victim (Hwang Ui-jo) has reached a settlement, there are still many secondary victims demanding severe punishment for the defendant," adding, "The defendant's actions are so serious that it is impossible to predict what further harm may arise, making the original sentence too lenient."
A said, "I deeply repent and reflect on my mistakes, and I am sincerely sorry for causing great pain to the victims through my wrongful actions," adding, "I will never commit such wrongdoings again and will live with a heart of apology toward the victims for the rest of my life."
A was arrested and indicted on December 8 of the same year on charges of sharing photos and videos on Instagram, claiming to be Hwang's ex-girlfriend, which depicted Hwang and multiple women, and alleging that Hwang had relationships with many women causing harm. She was sentenced to three years in prison in the first trial.
She is also charged with threatening by sending messages to Hwang such as "It will be fun when you are released" and "Wait and see," indicating an intention to distribute the filmed materials.
During the first trial, A continuously denied the charges but submitted a handwritten letter of remorse confessing to all the crimes to the court on February 20 of this year.
The verdict for A's appeal trial will be announced on the 26th of next month.
