Gwangju Seo-gu Selected as an 'Excellent Institution' in Food Safety Management Evaluation

Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) was selected as an 'Excellent Institution' in the food safety management evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

According to Seo-gu on the 22nd, this evaluation was conducted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety based on 10 indicators including food safety management infrastructure, basic hygiene management, and best practices, targeting 228 cities, counties, and districts nationwide. Seo-gu was the only autonomous district in Gwangju to be named an excellent institution.

Last year, Seo-gu proactively engaged in food safety management by conducting job training to enhance the capabilities of food safety management inspectors, expanding regular hygiene inspections and administrative guidance such as inspections of food hygiene establishments, participation in joint crackdowns, consumer monitoring activities, and handling of complaints.

In particular, Seo-gu received high recognition for actively promoting special policies such as selecting neighborhood alley restaurants, providing hygiene consulting for small alley restaurants, expanding collection inspections for radioactive contamination of distributed seafood, conducting seasonal special inspections of food hygiene establishments, and promoting food safety management policies.

Mayor Kim Ikang of Seo-gu said, “We will continue to strengthen hygiene inspection management to provide residents with trust that the food consumed in Seo-gu is safe to eat, and do our best to ensure food safety by promoting support projects to improve hygiene levels.”
