The Second 'Global Volunteer Day' This Year
Over 1,300 Participants from 8 Countries Including Korea and the USA
HD Hyundai Construction Equipment's three companies announced on the 22nd that, following last year, they simultaneously conducted environmental protection activities at their global sites for the second 'Global Volunteer Day' this year.
HD Hyundai Site Solutions, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment, and HD Hyundai Infracore engaged over 1,300 employees across eight countries including Korea, China, India, the United States, and Indonesia in environmental cleanup activities and ecosystem preservation near their workplaces such as seas, forests, and rivers. In observance of the UN-designated 'International Day for Biological Diversity,' they also carried out activities to maintain and preserve species diversity, including endangered species.
HD Hyundai Site Solutions visited the Tancheon Taepyeong Wetland Ecological Park in Seongnam City and removed invasive plants scattered across the 27,600 square meter (㎡) wetland. They collected abandoned branches and grass clippings. Employees personally created and installed biotopes to support insect habitats.
HD Hyundai Construction Equipment collaborated with Soim-myeon, Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, with which they have a sisterhood relationship, to plant 300 Ipop trees along a 2.1 km roadside near the Eumseong factory, creating a tree-lined forest path. After planting, they plan to regularly conduct additional volunteer activities such as applying insecticides and watering to prevent pests and promote the growth of the roadside trees.
HD Hyundai Infracore visited the pet-friendly beaches of Wangsang Beach in Incheon and Okdol Beach in Gunsan to collect marine debris. They also removed harmful plants and conducted cleanup activities at the Namdong Retention Basin in Incheon, a habitat for the endangered black-faced spoonbill.
Employees at global sites, not just in Korea, also participated in volunteer activities near their workplaces, adding significance to the 'Global Volunteer Day.'
HD Hyundai Infracore's Yantai branch visited local schools as part of the 'Hope Elementary School' program, which provides learning opportunities to youth in impoverished areas, conducting biodiversity protection education and recreational activities to spread the meaning of the 'International Day for Biological Diversity.'
HD Hyundai Construction Equipment's India branch carried out environmental cleanup activities along the riverside near Pune with about 200 employees.
After participating in wetland protection activities, Cho Young-chul, President of HD Hyundai Site Solutions, said, "Since last year, the three HD Hyundai Construction Equipment companies have been conducting volunteer activities on the same day at global sites to restore ecosystems and preserve biodiversity. As the company grows, it is important to take the lead and fulfill our social responsibilities."
