Sacheon City Council Strongly Opposes Jo Kyu-il Jinju Mayor's Administrative Integration Proposal

"Mayor Cho Gyuil, Who Proposed Administrative Integration, Urged to Immediately Withdraw the Proposal"

The Sacheon City Council in Gyeongnam has strongly opposed and put a halt to Mayor Cho Gyu-il of Jinju's proposal for administrative integration between Sacheon and Jinju.

On the 21st, the city council held a press conference in the briefing room on the second floor of Sacheon City Hall, urging Mayor Cho Gyu-il of Jinju to immediately withdraw his unilateral proposal for administrative integration between Sacheon and Jinju, which was made without any prior discussion, and to apologize to the citizens of Sacheon.

The Sacheon City Council pointed out, "Over 30 years ago, Jinju and Sacheon jointly built the Nadong regional landfill. However, not a single bag of Sacheon's waste has been deposited there to this day."

They continued, "We understand that the recent issue of building a regional waste incineration plant, which has become controversial, has also been scrapped due to opposition from Jinju. Now, Mayor Cho Gyu-il is suggesting we discuss administrative integration first and the plant installation later, but this shallow trick to serve only his own interests makes us furious."

Furthermore, they argued, "When Jinju was designated as the innovation city of Gyeongnam, Jinju was in a festive mood, but Sacheon, which grew from the same roots and shares the same living sphere, was left only with the pain of betrayal and abandonment by Jinju."

In fact, Sacheon requested the creation of the innovation city in Jeongchon District for the future development and cooperation of both municipalities, but the request was ignored.

They also emphasized, "Various wounds still remain unhealed and intact, so Mayor Cho Gyu-il's sudden push for administrative integration does not seem pure in its intention. It appears to stem from a political ambition disguised as joint development through integration."

They added, "While reasonable ambition can be a driving force for development, excessive greed inevitably brings disaster. Remember this and abandon your political ambitions."

In particular, they questioned, "With only a week left before the opening of the Korean version of NASA, the Aerospace Administration, it is incomprehensible why the proposal for administrative integration and the mention of the main office location of the Aerospace Administration have been brought up now."

On this day, Chairman Yoon Hyeonggeun said, "Even the iron of Seoncheon would laugh," and added, "Since Mayor Cho Gyu-il of Jinju has proposed the Sacheon-Jinju administrative integration, I return it to him in the Jinju dialect, meaning it is absurd and nonsensical."

He also requested, "Mayor Park Dongsik of Sacheon should actively respond to Jinju's unilateral claim for administrative integration, preemptively prevent any disadvantages that may befall the citizens of Sacheon, and thoroughly prepare for independent survival."

Chairman Yoon further promised, "The Sacheon City Council will actively oppose the Sacheon-Jinju administrative integration and will continue to prepare for independent survival with ongoing interest and effort."
