GIO Lee participated in the session alongside heads of state from various countries, international organizations, and representatives of major AI companies. He stated, "Unlike search, where users select information from various search results using a single keyword, AI that provides immediate answers delivers responses without any choice." He added, "This characteristic of AI will have a particularly significant impact on children and adolescents," explaining why AI safety must be considered very carefully.
GIO Lee quoted a novel phrase, "Those who control the past control the future: those who control the present control the past," and pointed out, "If a very small number of AIs dominate the present, perceptions of past history and culture will be formed solely based on the answers provided by those AIs, ultimately allowing those AIs to have a major influence on the future." From this perspective, he emphasized the need for many diverse AI models that show various viewpoints and understand the cultural and environmental contexts of each region.
He also added, "There are various perspectives in history," and said, "With diverse AI models, it is possible to preserve the diversity of each country's culture, and children and adolescents can have a proper sense of history and viewpoints."
GIO Lee stated, "Naver has realized technologies and services that create greater value through diversity, and following the announcement of AI ethics guidelines, we plan to unveil the Naver AI Safety Framework, a more concrete AI safety implementation framework, next month." He added, "Naver will respect and understand the culture and values of each region and support, through technology in any form, the emergence of responsible and diverse AI models so that many global countries can secure their own sovereign AI."
The AI Seoul Summit is held from May 21 to 22. It involves heads of state from around the world, international organizations, and representatives of leading AI technology companies. The summit conducts comprehensive discussions on AI development plans that strengthen AI safety while promoting innovation, inclusion, and coexistence.
