Pukyong National University ICAN Project Group Selected for Mid-Career and Excellent Young Researcher Grants by National Research Foundation

Professors Choi Sungcheol and Yoo Taeseon Secure 2 Billion Won in Research Funding Over 5 Years

Conducting Research Projects in Digital Twin AI and Metaverse XR Fields

Pukyong National University announced that Professors Choi Sungcheol and Yoo Taeseon from the ICAN Project Group (Integrated Bachelor's-Master's ICT Core Talent Training Project Group, Department of Systems Management and Safety Engineering) have each been selected for new projects under the National Research Foundation of Korea's 'Mid-Career Researcher Program (Type 2 - Global)' and 'Excellent Young Researcher Program'.

The Mid-Career Researcher Program supports outstanding basic research capabilities of mid-level researchers by funding highly creative individual research, aiming to foster their growth as leading researchers. The Excellent Young Researcher Program is a government R&D budget-supported initiative designed to encourage creative research by researchers and to enhance their research capabilities.


With this selection, the Pukyong National University ICAN Project Group will receive a total of 2 billion KRW in research funding over the next five years to carry out their research.


Through this selection, Professor Choi Sungcheol will conduct research on 'Development of an Automated System for Patent Infringement Detection and Analysis Using Search-Augmented Large Language Model-Based Generative Agents', while Professor Yoo Taeseon will carry out research on 'Optimization of Port Yard and Berth Considering Spatial Interference of Port Operation Resources'.


Choi Sungcheol, head of the ICAN Project Group, stated, "Following the selection of the ICAN Project last year, with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT and IITP, we have expanded our research infrastructure and attracted outstanding students. The active basic research conducted by participating faculty members over the past year has led to this remarkable achievement of being selected for the core projects of the National Research Foundation."


He added, "The ICAN Project Group has served as a catalyst for faculty members' challenging and creative research. Building on this, we will further focus on nurturing talent and securing fundamental technologies in the fields of Digital Twin AI and Metaverse XR."


Pukyong National University ICAN Project Group was launched in June 2023 with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), and is dedicated to fostering innovative talent in the field of digital new technologies.
