Expected Effect of Inhibiting Reproduction of Invasive Fish Species
Cheonan City, Chungnam Province, released 40,000 juvenile fish of Dongjagae and Daenonggaengi at Seongseong Lake Park and Cheonhoji Pond ahead of 'Biodiversity Day'.
Cheonan City in Chungnam announced on the 21st that it released 40,000 fry of Dongjagae and Daenonggaengi at Seongseong Lake Park and Cheonhoji in anticipation of 'Biodiversity Day.'
The event was attended by Cha Myung-guk, Director of the Agricultural Environment Bureau of Cheonan City, members of the Cheonan branch of the Wildlife Management Association, and about 50 employees from Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDI, and Samsung Display.
The released fry of Dongjagae and Daenonggaengi are known to eat the eggs or fry of invasive species such as bass during their growth process, thereby suppressing their reproduction and greatly improving water quality.
The city is promoting various projects every year to conserve the ecosystem, including fry release, eradication of ecosystem-disturbing species such as bass and red-eared sliders, and monitoring of wildlife habitats.
A Cheonan city official said, "Through this event, we hope to reflect on the meaning of biodiversity, raise awareness of the importance of ecosystem conservation, and expect that the released fry will grow well and create a healthy ecosystem."
