People Power Party Rated 'Qualified', Democratic Party 'Unqualified'
Controversies Over Illicit Inheritance to Children and Hiring of Spouse's Driver
Sergeant Chae Incident: "Investigation According to Principles" Announced
On the 21st, the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee adopted the personnel hearing report for Oh Dong-woon, the nominee for the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (PCC). With this, the head position of the PCC has been filled after four months.
On the same day, the Legislation and Judiciary Committee held a plenary meeting to decide whether to adopt the hearing report on nominee Oh. Having passed the National Assembly hurdle, Oh is expected to be appointed as the head of the PCC through the president's appointment procedure.

The report included both favorable and unfavorable opinions. The People Power Party evaluated nominee Oh as "qualified." On the other hand, the Democratic Party expressed an unfavorable opinion due to controversies such as nominee Oh's husband and father privileges.
During the hearing on the 17th, controversies arose over nominee Oh's alleged illicit transfer of assets to her children and the hiring of her spouse's driver. Oh transferred redevelopment area land to her daughter through the sale of real estate owned by her wife in a form of illicit gifting. She also separated her daughter as the head of a household to receive benefits such as capital gains tax reductions as a single-household single-home owner and had her work part-time at an acquaintance's law firm. In 2021, Oh defended a stepfather who forcibly molested a 12-year-old child, controversially claiming during the hearing that "the victim's mother manipulated the case to use it for divorce and property division lawsuits."
However, the Democratic Party agreed to adopt the personnel hearing report, emphasizing the importance of an investigation without sanctuary during the investigation process, including the special investigation of Sergeant Chae. During the previous hearing, nominee Oh stated, "If appointed as the head of the PCC, I will investigate the case of the fallen Marine (Sergeant Chae) without sanctuary, according to law and principles." So Byeong-cheol, the Democratic Party's opposition party secretary, said, "We respected nominee Oh's conviction to investigate anyone, including the president, without sanctuary and according to principles, so despite some issues, we accepted it."
