JW Biotech Achieves Milestone with First Export of Internationally Licensed Animal Virus Disinfectant to Vietnam

GW Biotech (CEO Yang Jaewon) announced on the 21st that it successfully exported 13 tons of an animal virus cleanser, for which it acquired international patent rights last January, to a domestic animal feed company entering the Vietnamese market. The company will also hold full-scale export briefings targeting global companies starting this month. Additionally, it has received letters of intent from multinational animal feed companies and is working to secure contracts by preemptively capturing the market.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the Vietnamese livestock market is seeing a decrease in small-scale farms and an increase in specialized large-scale livestock facilities. In particular, as of 2022, the pig population in the swine industry reached 27.4 million heads, ranking second in the world after China. The animal disinfectant market is valued at 450 billion KRW. However, challenges such as livestock disease issues and environmental problems caused by livestock manure treatment remain to be addressed.

The animal virus cleanser for which GW Biotech acquired international patent rights is primarily composed of a natural non-ionic surfactant and has a 99.99% virus elimination effect within 30 seconds to 1 minute. It preserves beneficial microorganisms inside livestock barns and pigsties, enabling safe disinfection for humans, livestock, and the environment. It is especially effective in addressing livestock disease problems in Vietnam’s swine industry, including African Swine Fever (ASF), Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED). Furthermore, its efficiency, such as being usable without the cumbersome task of moving livestock within barns, is driving strong export performance to Vietnam.

Besides Vietnam, the company plans to expand sales after conducting trials targeting large-scale farms in key partner countries such as China and the Philippines. In addition to the antiviral product exported to Vietnam, the company explained that it plans to expand into additional markets including the Philippines, Indonesia, and Myanmar with various agricultural and livestock environment improvement items, such as patented chlorine dioxide sterilization disinfectants and solutions incorporating livestock manure liquid fertilizer technology.

Executive Director Ahn Daebong, head of GW Biotech’s Green Bio business, said, “With the opening of the export route to Vietnam, we have achieved our first substantial success since launching the Green Bio new business. Our products, based on Korea’s advanced bio technology and recognized domestically, are being evaluated as improving local issues that are difficult to solve.”

Meanwhile, GW Biotech’s animal virus cleanser is a credible product jointly patented with the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT). It obtained international patent rights last January and has completed product performance verification in countries including China, Vietnam, and the Philippines, preparing for full-scale exports.
