Dobong-gu (District Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that the ‘Pum, Dobong’ Attractive Garden was selected as an ‘Autonomous District-Linked Attractive Garden’ (Excellence Award) at the opening ceremony of the Seoul International Garden Expo held on the 16th.
Seoul City, aiming to become a ‘Garden City Seoul,’ has been promoting high-quality garden creation projects in cooperation with 25 autonomous districts and selected 12 outstanding gardens among the districts through a judging panel on the 13th.
The ‘Pum, Dobong’ Attractive Garden was highly rated across ▲creativity and aesthetics ▲practicality and constructability ▲citizen participation, and was selected as an ‘Autonomous District-Linked Attractive Garden’ (Excellence Award).
The ‘Pum, Dobong’ Attractive Garden was created in April at the plaza of Exit 1 of Chang-dong Station in Dobong-gu. Center Director Lee So-won of the Choansan Gardening Center served as the garden artist, overseeing design and construction, and local residents including Dobong-gu neighborhood gardeners participated in planting the garden.
Center Director Lee So-won explained, “I wanted to offer a brief rest to urban residents’ weary daily lives. I aimed to create a dense garden full of the four seasons in the middle of the city where not even a single blade of grass could be planted.”
Created under the theme ‘A Garden That Embraces, FUN My City,’ this place features yellow and pink planters made with a plant color wheel. The FUN bench and floor patterns applying the brands of Seoul City and Dobong-gu also catch the eye.
The district plans to develop this place into a space where local residents can participate and enjoy. In connection with the Choansan Gardening Center, garden programs like festivals will be operated here every season.
On May 3rd and 4th, a Gardening Festival was held to commemorate the creation of the ‘Pum, Dobong’ Attractive Garden. At the ‘Pum, Dobong’ Attractive Garden, garden tours and photo zones were available, while the Choansan Gardening Center hosted gardener special lectures, plant painting exhibitions, and seasonal pot making.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “‘Pum, Dobong’ Attractive Garden is hoped to become a space that provides rest in daily life for residents. We will continue to strive to spread garden culture and manage garden creation to build a ‘Happy Dobong with Gardens.’”
