Suspected of fatally assaulting girlfriend in one-room apartment last month
Kept alive through hospital treatment but eventually passed away
Bereaved family requests "maximum punishment allowed by law"
A man in his 20s, identified as A, has been arrested on charges of causing the death of his girlfriend through 'dating violence.'
On the 20th, Kim Se-yong, chief judge of the Tongyeong branch of Changwon District Court, issued an arrest warrant for A, citing concerns that he might flee. A did not attend the warrant hearing, citing concerns about personal exposure. The court issued the warrant through a written review.
A is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend B at a one-room apartment in Geoje, Gyeongnam Province, around 8 a.m. on the 1st of last month, resulting in her death. The crime was reportedly committed because B did not keep a promise to meet the previous day. B was diagnosed with traumatic subdural hemorrhage and given a six-week recovery period. She was kept alive through treatment at a hospital in Geoje but passed away on the 10th of last month due to multiple organ failure caused by sepsis.
Initially, the National Forensic Service verbally indicated that B's death was not caused by assault, but the police later requested a detailed examination. The National Forensic Service recently informed the police that it is highly likely B died from complications related to head injuries.
Meanwhile, B's parents strongly demanded A's arrest and investigation before the warrant hearing. B's mother said, "The perpetrator neither admits wrongdoing nor shows remorse and is freely roaming the streets enjoying nightlife, while my daughter lies in the cold morgue unable to close her eyes properly. We hope the law imposes the maximum punishment allowed to make the perpetrator fully aware of the consequences of his actions. If the arrest warrant is not issued, we will continue to delay the funeral."
