Jeonnam Provincial Council Budget and Accounts Committee Reviews and Approves the 1st Supplementary Budget Proposal

The Jeonnam Provincial Council's Budget and Accounts Special Committee reviewed and approved the first supplementary budget proposals for 2024 from Jeonnam Province and the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 16th and 17th.


The committee examined a budget of 12.9466 trillion KRW for Jeonnam Province, which is 700.5 billion KRW more than the original budget, and 5.181 trillion KRW for the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, which is 264 billion KRW more than the original budget.


They accepted the executive branch's allocations aimed at overcoming the local extinction crisis, including 4.8 billion KRW for birth allowances in Jeonnam and 300 million KRW for the establishment and operation of the Jeonnam Immigration and Foreigners Comprehensive Support Center.

They cut 1 billion KRW for promoting Muan Airport revitalization and 300 million KRW for supporting the Green Energy Research Institute, totaling 2.2 billion KRW. Additionally, they finally approved increases totaling 1.9 billion KRW for projects such as ▲Jeonnam-style youth job projects (500 million KRW) ▲Jeonnam-style 10,000 won second house pilot project (400 million KRW) ▲customized growth support for SMEs related to new energy businesses (300 million KRW) ▲half-price ferry fares for general passengers to islands (200 million KRW).


The Office of Education cut a total of 5 billion KRW from the supplementary budget for operating the Glocal Future Education Expo, including 2 billion KRW for expanding Wee Class facilities out of the 5.9 billion KRW budget.


They also approved increases totaling 8.5 billion KRW, including 1.9 billion KRW necessary for operating the expo such as future classrooms and the Korea Education Pavilion, 2.9 billion KRW for basic operating expenses of public schools, and 400 million KRW for smart education activation projects.


Chairman Choi Myung-su stated, "We conducted an in-depth review to overcome the local extinction crisis and improve policies that residents can feel. We urge that newly established projects be pushed forward to be completed within the year, and that the Glocal Future Education Expo be operated as a safe and substantial international event."


This supplementary budget proposal will be finalized after review at the 4th plenary session on the 23rd.
