The Seoul High Court expressed regret over the statement made by Lim Hyun-taek, president of the Korean Medical Association, who alleged a "Supreme Court justice position inducement theory" against the judge who dismissed and rejected the injunction application to increase the number of medical school admissions, calling it "highly inappropriate language."
On the 20th, the Seoul High Court stated in a press release, "Speculative remarks without any objective basis are not only a serious insult to the honor and dignity of the presiding judge but also highly inappropriate language that can significantly undermine public trust in the independence of the judiciary," and "We express deep regret."
Earlier, on the 16th, the Administrative Division 7 of the Seoul High Court (Chief Judge Gu Hoe-geun) dismissed and rejected the injunction application filed by the medical community against the Minister of Health and Welfare and the Minister of Education regarding the increase and allocation of medical school admissions. In response, the next day, President Lim claimed in a CBS radio interview about Chief Judge Gu Hoe-geun, "I think there was some degree of inducement by the (government) regarding the Supreme Court justice position." The implication was that the government made a favorable decision through inducement for the Supreme Court justice position.
President Lim also said, "This is not my personal opinion but rather the collective intelligence of medical school professors, and many opinions suggest that this person (Chief Judge Gu) might have some interest in seeking personal gain."
Meanwhile, the Committee for the Protection of the Common People’s Livelihood (Seominwi) filed a complaint with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office the previous afternoon against President Lim for violating the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation) and obstruction of business, among other charges.
