Seo-gu plans to carry out high-temperature steam disinfection using specialized equipment on 7,124㎡ of sand playgrounds. The disinfection process will proceed in the order of removing foreign substances such as glass and animal excrement, turning over the sand, sterilizing with high-temperature steam using specialized equipment, and leveling the surface.
In addition, disinfectant will be applied to 76 playground equipment pieces, including combined play sets, to eliminate harmful bacteria such as parasites and germs.
In particular, after the disinfection work, Seo-gu will request the Health and Environment Research Institute to inspect the 28 children's sand playgrounds for the presence of parasite eggs and other hygiene factors to ensure thorough sanitation management.
In the second half of the year, comprehensive disinfection work will also be carried out on playgrounds with elastic pavement materials, in addition to sand playgrounds.
Yang Dongsik, Director of the Parks and Greenery Division, said, “We will make further efforts in safety inspections and follow-up management of children's play facilities so that children can freely enjoy sand play and use playground equipment safely and comfortably.”
