Damyang-gun Takes Proactive Measures to Improve Growth of Metasequoia Tree-lined Street

Supply of Pest Control and Nutritional Supplements for Newborns

Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Byeong-no) is making every effort to improve the growth of the Metasequoia tree-lined street.

On the 20th, Damyang-gun announced that from the 16th to the 19th, it conducted mite control and foliar fertilization (supplying nutrients to leaves) for rapid nutrient supply to the Metasequoia street trees.

This work was proactively carried out to promote healthy growth of Metasequoia trees, as the street trees experience browning symptoms due to pests such as mites and sunburn from summer every year, leading to growth deterioration.

Considering that the area is frequented by local residents for walks, the county applied pest control agents and foliar fertilization with potassium nitrate, magnesium sulfate, and other nutrients to all 487 Metasequoia trees along the entire street during early morning hours.

Lee Byeong-no, Governor of Damyang-gun, said, “We will prevent the spread of pests and diseases in the Metasequoia, a representative tourist attraction of Damyang, and provide timely nutrition to cultivate a lush tree-lined street, creating a beautiful street throughout all four seasons.”
