North Gyeongsang Province has nominated Yang Geumhee (62), a member of the National Assembly from Buk-gu Gap, Daegu, of the People Power Party, as the new Vice Governor for Economic Affairs.
Yang Geumhee, the nominee for Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of North Gyeongsang Province, will serve as the province's chief economic official, assisting Governor Lee Cheolwoo in leading economic and industrial administration during the latter half of the 8th popularly elected term.

Yang, as a member of the National Assembly, belonged to the Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs, and Startups Committee and the Special Committee on Advanced Strategic Industries. She led the passage of the Special Act on Innovation of Advanced Industry Talent, the Special Act on National Resource Security, and amendments to the Intelligent Robot Act. She was also active in parliamentary research groups such as the Forum for Promoting Inclusive Finance and Supporting Small Businesses.
Furthermore, she demonstrated outstanding competence by focusing on establishing legal frameworks, conducting research, and supporting policies in the fields of science, economy, and business throughout her term, including announcing strategies for supporting exports, finance, R&D, and carbon transition for the sustainable growth and innovation of small and medium-sized enterprises. North Gyeongsang Province evaluated her as the right person for the Vice Governor for Economic Affairs position.
Her background includes graduating from Daegu Namsan Girls' High School and the Department of Electronic Engineering at Kyungpook National University. She utilized her STEM major in her teaching career and is known to have a keen interest in the IT field.
Within the People Power Party, she has served as the party spokesperson, secretary of the Semiconductor Special Committee, chairperson of the Central Women’s Committee, and chair of the Daegu City Party Committee. She has also been at the forefront of protecting women and the socially disadvantaged through her involvement in the Committee for Accompanying the Underprivileged and the Special Committee on Countermeasures Against Sexual Violence. She is expected to demonstrate communicative leadership and capability in addressing various local issues and uniting residents.
Most notably, as the first former member of the National Assembly to be appointed as Vice Governor for Economic Affairs, she is expected to play a significant role in bridging central and local governments to address key issues in North Gyeongsang Province, such as fostering strategic industries like semiconductors, secondary batteries, and bio, completing the East Coast Clean Energy Industrial Belt, overcoming low birth rates, and promoting Daegu-North Gyeongsang cooperation, which Governor Lee Cheolwoo has long emphasized.
Yang Geumhee has been recognized for her legislative and parliamentary activities, receiving the Anti-Corruption Integrity Award in 2021, the Korea Constitutional Award for three consecutive years, the National Assembly Legislative Award in 2022, and the Intellectual Property Excellence in Legislative Activity Award in 2023.
North Gyeongsang Province plans to complete the appointment procedures as soon as possible and officially appoint her in early June, after her term as a member of the National Assembly ends, as the Vice Governor for Economic Affairs position has been vacant since Lee Dalhee resigned in March to run in the 22nd general election.
