Strengthening Step-by-Step Avian Surveillance Activities and Timely Operation of Underwater Aeration Facilities
The Daejeon City Waterworks Headquarters announced that it has established a comprehensive algae response plan for water sources and will begin full-scale operation.
The headquarters predicted that algae growth will be active around July, considering the weather forecast for Daecheong Lake, geographical characteristics, algae outbreaks after concentrated summer rainfall, and past occurrence trends.
Accordingly, to minimize pollutant inflow, manage drinking water, and ensure rapid response, a task force will be activated, and algae monitoring activities will be strengthened step-by-step. Environmental infrastructure such as underwater aeration facilities, artificial plant islands, wetlands, and algae barriers will be operated in a timely manner.
In addition, preparations such as securing powdered activated carbon at the Songchon, Wolpyeong, and Sintanjin water treatment plants, which are the actual water production bases, will be inspected, and a meeting with related personnel is scheduled for June.
The Chudong water area, the water source for Daejeon citizens, had three algae warnings issued from August to November last year.
Kim Young-bin, head of the Daejeon City Waterworks Headquarters, said, “We will do our best to produce the safest, top-quality tap water nationwide from the water source to households through thorough management, including proactive algae response and emergency situation handling.”
