'Medical AI' "Lunit Product Line Surpasses 100 Published Research Papers"

Medical AI company Lunit announced on the 20th that the number of research papers published using its AI imaging analysis solution, the Lunit Insight product line, has surpassed 100. This count excludes research abstracts presented at conferences and only includes papers published in prestigious global journals after peer review. The company stated, "This is the highest number of paper publications among medical AI companies in the fields of radiology and oncology worldwide."

Since the first paper publication in 2018, Lunit has consistently produced research results every year. The product with the most results is the chest X-ray AI imaging analysis solution, Lunit Insight CXR. A total of 55 papers have been featured in global journals. Research using the mammography AI imaging analysis solution, Lunit Insight MMG, and the 3D breast tomosynthesis AI imaging analysis solution, Lunit Insight DBT, has also been published in a total of 45 papers, bringing the total number of published papers to 100 as of the end of last month.

Lunit emphasized that it has also achieved qualitative success. They have continuously published research papers in top-tier global medical journals with high impact factors (IF), such as The Lancet Digital Health, JAMA Oncology, and Radiology. Among these, 25 papers were published in prestigious journals with an IF exceeding 10.

Looking at actual research results, a study published in The Lancet Digital Health in collaboration with the Karolinska Institute in Sweden demonstrated that AI can interpret breast cancer screening images, replacing one radiology specialist. Following this, AI was introduced into clinical practice at Capio St. G?ran Hospital, the largest private hospital in Sweden. A study published in Radiology in collaboration with Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands compared the lung nodule detection capabilities of seven global AI products and radiology specialists, with Lunit Insight CXR achieving the highest score (0.93) in the area under the curve (AUC), a representative performance metric for AI. AUC values closer to 1 indicate higher diagnostic performance. This objectively demonstrated the diagnostic performance of the AI solution and its applicability in real medical settings.

Seobum Seok, CEO of Lunit, said, "When clinical evidence through global medical journals is solidly accumulated, it naturally provides significant advantages in regulatory approval processes and new sales. Our efforts to provide value to both patients and medical staff by improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing the workload of medical professionals have led to the achievement of 100 published papers."
