Seongdong-gu Establishes 'Smart Rainwater Inlet Management System' with Smartphone Reporting

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) recently announced that it will establish a 'Smart Rainwater Drain Management System' to proactively respond to the increasing abnormal weather and enhance residents' convenience.

Currently, there are 19,328 rainwater drains installed in Seongdong-gu, but management has been difficult due to a lack of inspection personnel. The complicated complaint reporting process was also one of the inconveniences for residents.

Accordingly, Seongdong-gu plans to complete the establishment of the QR code-based 'Smart Rainwater Drain Management System' by July and conduct a pilot operation by attaching QR codes to streetlights around the Seongsu-dong cafe street area.

The 'Smart Rainwater Drain Management System' is a citizen-participation maintenance system that allows easy reporting using QR codes, with the core goal of maximizing the efficiency of rainwater drain management.

Received complaints are automatically registered in the smart management system, enabling prompt processing and status tracking. Additionally, based on the reported data, cleaning and maintenance of rainwater drains will be carried out before abnormal weather or disaster situations occur, which is expected to greatly help prevent safety accidents and flood damage.

Seongdong-gu will carefully analyze any issues found during the pilot operation to improve the system and plans to expand its implementation throughout Seongdong-gu by 2025.

The 'Smart Rainwater Drain Management System' is an integrated platform project consisting of three unit systems: simple rainwater drain reporting, data-based systematic maintenance and management. It will be developed internally (Information and Communication Division) and operated (Water Management Division) without additional budget allocation.

The system will include the ‘Simple Rainwater Drain Reporting Mobile System’ for quick and easy reporting of damage or inconveniences, the ‘Smart Rainwater Drain Map’ which allows viewing of rainwater drain location information and displays damage or inconvenience on a map for monitoring, and the ‘Rainwater Drain Work Management System’ that enables real-time viewing of complaint reports and on-site support.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "With the establishment of the 'Smart Rainwater Drain Management System,' we expect to actively respond to abnormal weather while greatly improving residents' convenience." He added, "We will continue to do our best so that all residents can enjoy a safe and convenient life."
