Mayor Oh Se-hoon seems to be in a very good mood these days. His expression looks bright.
On the 16th at 2 p.m., Mayor Oh attended the opening ceremony of the ‘Yangcheon-gu Y Education Expo’ and, with his characteristic gentle expression, congratulated District Mayor Lee Ki-jae and all the residents of Yangcheon-gu for hosting such a content-rich education expo in the ‘Education City Yangcheon-gu,’ delivering a pleasant congratulatory speech.
Soon after, Mayor Oh hurried off to attend the opening ceremony of the ‘2024 Seoul International Garden Expo,’ held from 4 p.m. at Ttukseom Hangang Park area.
These days, Mayor Oh has become the most popular invitee at various events held across Seoul’s autonomous districts.
Despite the ‘2024 Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival,’ which attracted a huge crowd of Seoul citizens and started at 7 p.m. on the 18th, he could not attend due to other commitments.
However, the highlight of Mayor Oh’s events this week was undoubtedly the opening ceremony of the 2024 Seoul International Garden Expo held on the 16th.
This was because he was able to showcase his achievements toward creating a charming special city, one of the main themes of his fourth term as Seoul mayor, by promoting the garden city project, a key initiative of the charming special city Seoul.
Mayor Oh is carrying out the Hangang Renaissance Project, based on the Hangang River, Seoul’s greatest asset, to establish Seoul as a leading global city.
Meanwhile, the 2024 International Garden Expo was presented with great care to become an important achievement of Mayor Oh.
From the first day of the opening, many citizens toured the site and were deeply impressed by how what was once just a grassy riverside area could be transformed in such a way.
Mr. A, a resident of Jayang-dong met at the site on the afternoon of the 16th, said, “This place used to be just a grassy area, but it’s wonderful now that it’s been decorated as a garden,” adding, “It will also be very helpful for exercising in the mornings and evenings.”
Encouraged by such citizen reactions, Mayor Oh unusually called up Lee Soo-yeon, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Green City and Leisure Bureau, who created this work despite the short preparation period, to praise her at the opening ceremony.
Mayor Oh said, “Director Lee Soo-yeon made a wonderful garden,” and encouraged, “We will create charming gardens throughout Seoul.”
Although Director Lee is a senior administrative official from the civil service exam background, she was appointed as Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Green City and Leisure Bureau on January 1 of this year and, in just over five months, presented such a splendid work, earning high praise from Mayor Oh.
Director Lee credits Mayor Oh’s will and support, saying, “Without Mayor Oh’s determination and support, how could such a garden have been created?” While emphasizing Mayor Oh’s contribution, Director Lee, the ‘idea person’ who practically backed the project, has also achieved a significant accomplishment during her public service in Seoul.
At the opening ceremony that day, Mayor Oh also awarded commendations to 12 district mayors, including Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin-gu and Choi Ho-kwon of Yeongdeungpo-gu, who created splendid charming gardens promoted by Seoul City.
In particular, Mayor Oh praised, “Kim Kyung-ho, the district mayor of Gwangjin-gu, where a wonderful garden was created, is the biggest beneficiary.”
