Companies that sold paint products while falsely advertising "radon blocking" and "radon reduction" have been sanctioned by the Fair Trade Commission.

On the 19th, the Fair Trade Commission announced that it would impose corrective orders on six paint businesses: Noru Paint, Samhwa Paint Industry, Chamgil, Hyeonil, Pureheim, and Calico, for unfair labeling and advertising practices.

According to the Fair Trade Commission, these companies promoted their products?Sun&Su Radon Guard (Noru Paint), Inplus Radon Guard (Samhwa Paint Industry), Activa707 (Chamgil), Nanoclean (Hyeonil), Radon Safe (Pureheim), and CoatingN (Calico)?as having radon reduction effects without objective evidence.

Some companies also promoted their products by presenting inappropriate self-conducted test reports or using false phrases such as "results from accredited institution testing."

However, test results from the National Institute of Environmental Sciences confirmed that these products had no radon reduction effect or had significantly lower effects than the figures stated in their labeling and advertising.

The Fair Trade Commission determined that these companies’ false and exaggerated advertisements hindered consumers' reasonable purchasing decisions and disrupted fair trade order, leading to the sanctions.

The Fair Trade Commission stated, "We will continue to monitor unfair labeling and advertising practices related to public health and safety, and will respond strictly when violations of the law are detected."
