Jogakbo Mini Bag Making Experience and Exhibition
Ulsan Museum will host a traditional culture experience class titled "Connecting Hearts with Jogakbo: Making a Small Jogakbo Bag" for two days on the 30th and 31st.
Choi Insook, a master of gyubang crafts, will personally lead the class and lecture on Jogakbo, which combines traditional Korean colors and delicacy.
Master Choi has been widely promoting the beauty of gyubang crafts centered in Ulsan, and recently participated in the Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition in Italy, where she exhibited "Jogakbo with Petroglyph Patterns Dyed with Natural Colors."
The class will be conducted as a hands-on experience in which participants will make their own Jogakbo and create a small bag, providing an opportunity to learn about gyubang crafts and Jogakbo.
After the class, the works made by the participants will be exhibited.
The classes will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on the 30th and 31st, and participants are required to attend both days.
There is no participation fee, but each participant must pay a material cost of 5,000 won. The class is open to 30 people, and any adult can apply.
Applications can be submitted through the Ulsan Public Facility Reservation Service from 10:00 AM on the 21st until 5:00 PM on May 25th, on a first-come, first-served basis. For more details, refer to the Ulsan Museum website.
An official from Ulsan Museum stated, "Jogakbo is a practical daily item created in the limited space of the gyubang during the Confucian society of the Joseon Dynasty, when women's social activities were restricted," and added, "Today, its value has evolved into a diverse art form that encompasses art, economy, and the environment."
