From 10 AM to 6 PM on the 18th at Busan Cinema Center, over 13,000 global citizens from 77 groups in 41 countries to participate
Invited performances, world culture experiences, exhibition booths, free movie screenings, pop song contest with singer Kim Johan, and more
To commemorate World Day for Cultural Diversity, the city of Busan will host the 19th Busan Global Citizen Festival at the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 18th.
The event is organized by the city and the Ministry of Justice, and co-hosted by the Busan Global City Foundation, Busan Immigration Office, and Culture Welfare Empathy.
On this day, at the Busan Cinema Center, more than 13,000 global citizens from 77 organizations representing 41 countries?including embassies, consulates general, cultural centers, foreign communities in Busan, and related institutions?will come together to introduce their cultures and performances, fostering communication and harmony.
First, at the outdoor plaza of the Cinema Center, traditional and fusion performances from a wider range of countries than ever before?including China, the Philippines, Ecuador, Kenya, Japan, Indonesia, Chile, Mongolia, India, Cameroon, Italy, and Korea?will be showcased.
Notably, this festival will also feature 'Enjoy English Week,' during which the 'All-Star English Special Live Broadcast: Citizen Pop Song Singing Contest' will take place with singer Kim Johan (Solid).
Additionally, experience booths will offer opportunities to directly and indirectly engage with world cultures, including exhibitions of traditional crafts from Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Europe, as well as food and cultural experiences, and the distribution of tourism promotional souvenirs.
On the 6th floor of the Cinema Center, in collaboration with the Korea-Africa Foundation (KAF) and the Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival (BIKY), a free film screening event titled 'Stories of Global Citizens in Film' will be held as part of global citizenship education.
In celebration of 'World Week' (May 17?25), a variety of global events will continue to take place in Busan.
Events include: the Africa Film Festival (May 9?23); 2024 Invitation of the Diplomatic Corps in Korea to Busan (May 17?18); Enjoy English Week (May 17?19); Korea-China-Japan Children's Art Fair (May 18?June 2); Diamond Bridge (Gwangandaegyo) International Walking Festival (May 19); World Day for Cultural Diversity Commemoration (May 20); 'Global City Busan: Our Neighborhood Stories Contest' (May 20); and a Job Fair for International Students (May 23).
Mayor Park Hyungjoon stated, "This 19th Busan Global Citizen Festival, under the theme 'People of the Global City,' will serve as a venue for exchange where people of various nationalities living in Busan can come together, communicate, and foster harmony. I encourage all citizens to show great interest and participate in this festival."
