Support of 100,000 to 200,000 KRW for Cultural Experience Activities for Children from Low-Income Single-Parent Families
For 6th Grade Elementary, 2nd Grade Middle, and 2nd Grade High School Students Going on School Trips
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will be the first autonomous district in Seoul to provide cultural experience activity expenses (hereinafter referred to as school trip expenses) to low-income single-parent families.
According to the district, as of May 1, 2024, there are 1,051 low-income single-parent households with 2,458 members residing in Gwangjin-gu, of which 882 are elementary, middle, and high school students.
The beneficiaries are a total of 168 students in 6th grade of elementary school, 2nd grade of middle school, and 2nd grade of high school. The district will confirm whether the eligible students participate in school trips at each school and provide support accordingly.
The support amounts are 100,000 KRW for elementary students, 150,000 KRW for middle school students, and 200,000 KRW for high school students. However, those who are recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security and already receiving school trip support from the district office are excluded.
Although the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education supports travel expenses up to 500,000 KRW as ‘small-scale themed educational travel expenses’ for children from low-income families, in reality, travel expenses for trips lasting one or two nights often exceed 500,000 KRW, requiring families to cover the additional costs themselves.
Accordingly, Gwangjin-gu announced that it has implemented this support project to reduce the economic burden by covering various expenses related to travel preparation for children from low-income single-parent families and to provide equal learning participation opportunities.
The district handles all processes including inquiry, verification, and payment, so there is no separate application procedure. The final list will be confirmed within this month, and cash payments will be made to the accounts of students or their guardians. Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Students who should be making happy memories during their school years should not be left out from participating with their friends due to financial difficulties,” and added, “We will carefully support our students so that they can grow up healthy with dreams and hopes.”
