"Curious if it's calm"... Man deliberately claps and provokes a large dog

Controversy Over Man's Behavior Approaching Doberman on Walking Path
"He wanted to see if the dog would be controlled when startled and runs"
"After Lee Kyung-gyu's broadcast, such incidents... walking has become scary"

A man’s deliberate approach to a large dog during a walk to test whether the dog would bite has sparked controversy. YouTuber A, who has 120,000 subscribers, posted a video titled "How long do we have to endure large dog hatred disputes? I’m scared now" on his social media on the 14th. A, who owns a Doberman, shared the story: "While my dog was urinating and walking around in the park in front of my house, a man suddenly clapped his hands from behind."

A said, "When I asked the man what he was doing, he said he wanted to see if he could control the dog if it got startled and ran. Then he changed his story, saying the clapping was to tell the dog not to come. Who claps their hands to tell a dog not to come?" he said, expressing his disbelief.

In the video, a man can be seen clapping his hands in front of the dog, provoking it, which caused A to raise his voice, and the dog became anxious and whined. The man then suddenly shouted, "(You) said you guarantee it won’t bite, right? See, that’s wrong. I don’t want the dog to come to me. Go away!" A claimed, "The man in the video came close to me and provoked the dog, clapping his hands several times in front of me to see if the dog was calm and threatened us."

He then questioned, "Is this really how someone who is afraid of dogs behaves? Is it normal to experience this just because you own a large dog?"

A added, "After the controversy over Lee Kyung-gyu’s show 'Respect Refrigerator,' I thought ‘It’s going to be another tough walk,’ but I encountered this incident in a park where I just briefly stopped for my dog to relieve itself." He continued, "After experiencing this several times in the park I pass by multiple times a day, I’m now afraid even to step outside my house for a moment."

Netizens criticized the man, saying things like "It’s better to avoid confrontation and leave quickly," and "If the dog charged after that, he’s probably a scammer trying to extort money by filing a complaint." However, some commented on the importance of muzzles and leashes, saying, "Even if a muzzle isn’t mandatory, it’s true that big dogs can be scary when they pass by." Dobermans are not classified as dangerous dogs under the Animal Protection Act, so muzzle-wearing is not mandatory.

Previously, broadcaster Lee Kyung-gyu’s web variety show 'Respect Refrigerator' featured a segment titled "Finding people who show respect during dog walks," but it sparked controversy by adding captions such as "No muzzle" and "No muzzle again" during scenes with Jindo dogs. The focus on Jindo dogs, which are not classified as dangerous, was criticized for promoting hatred, and the production team eventually issued an apology.
