Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) held a kickoff meeting for the "Intelligent Emergency Medical System (AI Ambulance) Pilot Area Project," which was selected as a public contest project by the Ministry of Science and ICT last April, on the 16th at the Suncheon City Hall main conference room.

The meeting was hosted by the Information and Communication Industry Promotion Agency, the project’s dedicated institution, and the Yonsei University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, the operating institution. It consisted of presentations on the AI Ambulance project details and implementation plans, a system demonstration, and a Q&A session.

The meeting was attended by Jeollanam-do, the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, and emergency medical officials from the Suncheon emergency medical area local governments including Yeosu City, Gwangyang City, Gurye County, and Goheung County health centers, fire stations, as well as representatives from 12 emergency medical institutions, marking an important opportunity to establish a regional medical cooperation system.

An official from the city stated, “Through the AI Ambulance project, we expect to support rapid and appropriate patient transport and secure the golden time for patient treatment. As this serves as a step forward in establishing a regional medical foundation by building governance and activating networks with fire departments and emergency medical institutions, we will do our best to establish a Suncheon-type regional complete medical system.”

The AI Ambulance pilot area project is an intelligent emergency medical service that selects the most suitable hospital and guides the optimal usage route by linking patient information throughout the entire process from the occurrence of an emergency situation to treatment.

Through this, it is possible to secure the golden time for emergency patients and increase the survival rate of critically ill emergency patients. This project will be piloted in the Suncheon area and then expanded to the Jeonnam region until December 2025.
