PubaO Interacts with Other Pandas... "Eats Food Sparingly, Likes Cornbread"

"Fubao, Saves Food Without Waste"
"Communicates Through Smell and Sound... Gradually Adapting"

At the beginning of last month, the giant panda 'Pubao,' who started a new chapter in China after leaving Korea, began adapting to group life as its quarantine period nears completion.

On the 16th, the China Panda Protection and Research Center posted a one-minute video related to Pubao on Weibo, a Chinese social networking service (SNS). The video, filmed on the 15th, shows Pubao leaning halfway against the bars of the quarantine and inspection area at the Wolong China Giant Panda Breeding Base in Shifeng, eating corn bread. At the end of the video, Pubao is seen wandering in the grass to aid digestion after eating.

The center stated, "Pubao does not waste food and eats sparingly," adding, "His favorite foods are corn bread, vegetables, and fruits." They also noted, "Pubao is gradually adapting to group living by interacting with neighbors (other pandas) through smells and sounds."

This is the first video featuring Pubao released by the center in two weeks since the video titled 'Pubao's Quarantine Diary 4' was posted on the 1st of last month. At that time, the center announced, "Pubao's quarantine period will soon end," and "Pubao will soon meet the public." After the quarantine ends, Pubao is expected to live at the Wolong Shifeng Base for a while before settling at one of the Shifeng Base, Hetao Ping Base, Dujiangyan Base, or Ya'an Base.

Meanwhile, Pubao was born on July 20, 2020, to Lubao and Aibao, pandas sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping in March 2016 as a symbol of Korea-China friendship. Named to mean "a treasure that brings happiness," Pubao lived at Everland Panda Land and was affectionately called 'Yongin Pussi,' 'Pugongju,' and 'Putuntun,' receiving much love domestically. However, on the 3rd of last month, the 1,354th day since his birth, Pubao returned to China.
