"Hope Many People Take Interest in National Heritage"
The group 'NewJeans' will be the first K-pop girl group to perform at Geunjeongjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace.
On the 16th, the Cultural Heritage Administration, which hosts the event, along with the National Heritage Promotion Agency and KBS Korea Broadcasting, announced that NewJeans recently completed a special stage pre-recording at Geunjeongjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace for the '2024 Korea On Stage - New Generation' (hereafter 'Korea On Stage').
Geunjeongjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace is a palace building where major state ceremonies were held during the Joseon Dynasty and is currently designated as a national treasure. Public performances in the Geunjeongjeon area have been rare even since the palace opened to the public in 1954. The Cultural Heritage Administration specially opened Geunjeongjeon for NewJeans’ stage, leading K-pop.
Previously, the group 'BTS' performed a live stage at Geunjeongjeon Hall on the American NBC show 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' in 2020.
NewJeans, as the first K-pop girl group to decorate a special stage at Geunjeongjeon, will present their hit song 'Cool With You' in a special performance at this location.
The Cultural Heritage Administration introduced, "The styling highlights Korean beauty with specially made hanbok outfits reinterpreting the dansam jeogori, sran chima, and daeran chima, along with beoseon-style shoes and goddess-like hair accessories for this stage. Additionally, the fantastic performance lighting up the night scenery of Geunjeongjeon will simultaneously convey the greatness of the national heritage and the status of K-pop."
NewJeans said, "We are truly honored to perform at Geunjeongjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace, a precious heritage of our country, and it will be a memory to cherish for a long time. We hope this opportunity will encourage many people to take an interest in our national heritage."
KBS stated, "NewJeans’ special stage at Geunjeongjeon will not only be an opportunity to newly introduce the beauty and value of national heritage but is also expected to serve as a chance for Geunjeongjeon to promote Korean culture worldwide in the future."
NewJeans’ Geunjeongjeon stage can be seen on the 'Korea On Stage' broadcast on KBS 2TV at 11:25 PM on the 21st. The program will be aired in 142 countries through KBS World. NewJeans member Danielle will serve as the MC for 'Korea On Stage.'
