Busan Urban Corporation Hosts 6th Youth Urban Regeneration Campthon

Busan City, BMC, 7 Universities, and Malaysia Kelantan University Participate

Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC, President Kim Yonghak) announced that it will hold the '6th Youth Urban Regeneration Specialist Youth Camptathon' at the Busan Eurasia Platform on the 19th.

This event has been organized as a specialized youth camptathon under the theme of 'Revitalizing Local Community Facilities for the Creation of a 15-Minute City,' aiming to encourage young people's interest in the local community. The orientation event will also feature a special youth lecture to help participants better understand the topic.

'Camptathon' is a compound word of 'camping' and 'marathon,' referring to a project-based program where participants seek solutions to urban regeneration issues and develop ideas over an extended period, much like a marathon.

A total of 176 students from eight universities, including Kyungsung University, Tongmyong University, Dongseo University, Dong-A University, Dong-Eui University, Pusan National University, Korea Maritime and Ocean University, and University Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), will participate in this process.

The Youth Camptathon will begin with an orientation on the 19th and continue for about two months until July. Nineteen teams, formed by each university, will carry out group missions to revitalize community facilities from the perspective of young people and will share their projects with each other at a final presentation event.

BMC will select six teams through a review of the project outcomes at the end of July and will award a total of 5 million KRW in prize money and certificates.

Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, said, "The Youth Camptathon is an opportunity to promote the use of community facilities and urban regeneration through the ideas of young people. We will do our best to ensure that these ideas can be realized as effective policies."

The 'Youth Urban Regeneration Specialist Training Program,' launched in 2019 to foster Busan-style urban regeneration talent, has so far seen the participation of over 1,000 students and produced 435 youth urban regeneration specialists.
