This Year's US Jackson Hole Meeting to Be Held August 22-24

The economic policy symposium 'Jackson Hole Meeting,' where central bank governors and leading economists from major countries around the world gather in one place, will be held this year from August 22 to 24.

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City on the 15th (local time), the theme of this year's Jackson Hole Meeting is 'Reassessing the Effectiveness and Transmission of Monetary Policy.' A total of 120 participants, including central bank governors, finance ministers, and economists from various countries, including the Federal Reserve (Fed), will discuss the global economy and current issues.

Statements made by influential figures who have driven the global economy at this venue have shaken the markets. The place where Ben Bernanke, then Fed Chairman, announced quantitative easing during the financial crisis was Jackson Hole. Mario Draghi, former President of the European Central Bank (ECB), also first signaled monetary easing policy at the 2014 Jackson Hole Meeting. In 2022, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell made hawkish remarks regarding inflation, causing major stock markets to plunge, confirming the so-called 'Powell Shock.'

Since it indicates the future direction of monetary policy, there is even a saying in the United States that 'the Jackson Hole consensus precedes the Washington consensus.' Some also call Jackson Hole, where the symposium is held annually and is surrounded by the Teton Mountains, the 'August Revelation of the Teton Mountains.'
