Presenting "Educational Expandability" to Realize Public Education Outside Schools by Opening Innovative Learning Spaces Beyond Spatial Limits
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that from the 16th to the 18th, it will host the nationwide "Y Education Expo 2024" at the Yangcheon-gu Office area, featuring everything from expert forums on the direction of future education to futuristic advanced classrooms and various future technology experience zones.
Following last year's successful launch as the first nationwide education expo by a basic local government, the Y Education Expo is entering its second year with a new format called the "campus-style expo," breaking away from the traditional exhibition-style format.
In particular, the expo will transform the Yangcheon-gu Office area into an open campus, allowing citizens to freely participate in desired educational programs regardless of location or time, presenting a new educational paradigm of "expansion of education" beyond spatial limitations.
The main theme of this expo is "Meeting Classrooms Outside the Classroom" to realize public education beyond schools, with 24 diverse contents across six sections that reflect South Korea's education trends.
Continuing from last year, the Y-Education Forum and Open Classes (Star Mentors, Career Rock Talk Concert, Real Study Y-Teachers), which suggest directions for future education and explore youth self-directed learning methods and dream realization, will be held on the opening days, the 16th and 17th. The Career and College Admission Expo, which establishes career and admission strategies through customized counseling, will be divided into the High School Admission Expo, Y Admission Mentoring Group, and College Entrance Explanation Sessions.
The Future Education Expo, showcasing the latest future technologies, and the Lifelong Learning Festival, a place for learning and sharing across all generations, will be open throughout the three days. The National Youth Competition for discovering talents in the 4th Industrial Revolution (ChatGPT English Speech Contest, National Youth Drone Soccer Competition) will conclude the event on the last day.
This year, for preschool children and family participants, the Kids Play Zone, Astronomy Observation Class, and movie screenings have been prepared, with most reservations already completed.
Introducing AI-based ‘Future Advanced Classrooms’ such as Robot Teachers and Digital Textbooks
The popular content of the education expo, the Future Education Expo, features three special zones: Future Classroom Experience Zone, 4th Industrial Revolution Experience Booth Zone, and Drone Experience Zone.
Especially, the Future Classroom Experience Zone is a core content reflecting the latest trends such as digital textbooks, AI robots, electronic blackboards, and modular desks, designed to let visitors experience future students' classes conducted through various digital-based learning methods ahead of time.
To realize the future classroom, the district has installed a booth container measuring 11 meters wide and 6 meters high on the lawn plaza of Yangcheon Park and operates the Y Digital Class in collaboration with EBS, offering various future education contents such as AI-utilized classes and creativity education. In particular, the AI robot teacher will demonstrate classes, vividly showing the imagined future school in reality.
Three small-scale lectures will be conducted by instructors including Hyorin Papa and two others, and on the last day, the 18th, a fun dance lecture with One Million will be held on a special stage.
A Y Education Expo 2024 photo zone will be operated around the Y Digital Class booth to help visitors cherish special moments at the education expo.
Dash Robot Soccer, Flight Simulation, ChatGPT Video Making, and 25 4th Industrial Revolution Experience Booths
The "4th Industrial Revolution Experience Booth Zone" operates 25 booths across four sections: Robots, VR/AR, Artificial Intelligence, and Makers. The "Robot Zone" offers various experiences such as voice recognition control robot experience, Dash robot soccer games, interaction with AlphaMini, and dance time with the Kkokdu robot.
The "Virtual/Augmented Reality (VR/AR) Zone" allows visitors to experience flight simulation and hologram content creation. The "Artificial Intelligence Zone" offers experiences with ChatGPT, which sparked the generative AI craze, video creation, and the AI autonomous driving robot Altino. Lastly, the "Makers Zone" provides mood lamp making using 3D pens.
At the venue, the humanoid AI robot "Amy" will perform unique performances, interact with visitors, and the mini performance of the "quadruped robot" will also provide a distinctive spectacle, enhancing the event atmosphere.
Especially, at the entrance of Yangcheon Park, a "Robot Barista" and "Cotton Candy Robot" will be stationed. Visitors who post certification photos of their visit to the Y Education Expo on their personal social networks (SNS) and show them can enjoy delicious drinks and cotton candy made by the robots.
Drone Experience Zone, Amazing E-School Bus, Science Escape Bus, and More
The "Drone Experience Zone" offers drone piloting lessons for beginners, obstacle navigation, and drone battles over two days, the 16th and 17th, with on-site registration available. On the 18th, the "2nd National Youth Drone Soccer Competition" featuring 23 youth teams nationwide will be held.
The mobile metaverse "Amazing E School Bus (School Verse)" operates various immersive educational contents based on traditional folktales, including character education and recycling experience activities. Additionally, in collaboration with the Seoul Science Museum, the "Science Companion Bus," which combines future technology and escape room games, offers a program where participants solve eight missions to learn scientific principles.
Kids Play Zone, Astronomy Observation Class, Stamp Tour Event, and More Side Events
The Kids Play Zone, designed for infants and lower-grade elementary students, will offer diverse content over three days at the Yangcheon Park stadium, including KidZania job experiences, air bounce playground, and bubble playground. On the evening of the 16th at 7 PM, a professional astronomy guide will give a special lecture and conduct constellation observation at Yangcheon Park, and on the evening of the 17th at 7 PM, the lawn plaza will transform into an outdoor cinema screening the family movie "Sing 2."
Especially, the main stage of this expo, the lawn plaza of Yangcheon Park, will feature art shades that serve as sunshades during the day and colorful night lighting at night, creating a unique and romantic atmosphere. Additionally, the Y Education Expo Stamp Tour event will allow participants to enjoy Alvolo pizza slices for 1,000 won or receive Y Education Expo Haewoori stationery sets depending on the number of stamps collected.
Furthermore, anticipating up to 7,000 visitors per day, the district is fully committed to safety management. A comprehensive information center and joint control room will be operated, and about 190 safety personnel will be deployed throughout the venue to thoroughly prepare for any situations. In particular, to ensure the smooth progress and safety of the Lifelong Learning Festival, the 140-meter path between Yangcheon Park will be completely closed to vehicles until 10 PM on the 18th.
The expo opening ceremony will be held at 2 PM on the 16th at the outdoor special stage in Yangcheon Park, hosted by announcers Kim Jeong-geun and Kim Seung-joo, featuring a special performance by violinist Park Ji-hye collaborating with an AI robot. Following this, opening remarks by Mayor Lee Gi-jae, congratulatory speeches by Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Seoul Education Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon, and a digital ceremony will declare the energetic start of the Y Education Expo. The closing ceremony at 5 PM on the 18th will conclude with the awards ceremony for the competitions, a drawing performance by "Painters," and a congratulatory performance by singer "Fortena."
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, "The Y Education Expo, held for the second time this year, is designed as an experiential expo in an open campus format to address the era's challenge of future-oriented education and talent development in the education city of Yangcheon-gu, aiming to realize public education beyond schools. I hope everyone who wants to see, hear, and feel the future of education in Korea will visit Y Education Expo 2024, the 'education site outside the classroom,' and have a meaningful time leaping beyond classrooms toward a greater future."
