Busan City to Host 'Busan Enjoy English Week'

English Experience Program at Busan Global Village, Busan Cinema Center, and City Hall from May 17 to 19

Special Lecture by Author Bae Seonggi on 'YouTube English Learning Methods', English Flea Market, and 'Global Festival Experience'

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) will host the '2024 Busan Enjoy English Week' from May 17 to 19, offering all generations of Busan citizens the opportunity to learn and experience English in a fun way.

The event will take place at Busan Global Village (May 17), Busan Cinema Center (May 18), and City Hall (May 19).


This event is being held for the first time this year to foster an English-friendly city and improve citizens' English proficiency by providing programs that allow participants to communicate and enjoy using English.


On the first day (May 17) at Busan Global Village, the schedule includes: ▲ a special lecture on "YouTube English Learning Methods" by education influencer Bae Seonggi (Hyunseo’s Dad); ▲ the "Citizen English Golden Bell" quiz for adults; and ▲ a "One Day Class" where participants can learn essential English expressions for overseas travel with native speakers in studios set up to resemble airports and subways.


The "YouTube English Learning Methods" lecture will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, followed by the "Citizen English Golden Bell" until 5:00 PM. The "One Day Class" will be offered twice, in the morning (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM) and afternoon (3:00 PM - 5:00 PM).


Applications for the May 17 programs can be made through the city's website under Events/Applications, and on-site registration will also be available for the "YouTube English Learning Methods" lecture on the day of the event.

On the second day (May 18), in conjunction with the "19th Busan World Citizen Festival," the "Enjoy English Week Zone" will be set up at the outdoor plaza of Busan Cinema Center, where booths will offer a variety of hands-on activities for children, adults, and foreigners alike.


The "Enjoy English Week Zone" will be open from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on May 18, and participation is available on a walk-in basis without prior registration.


Programs include: ▲ an English flea market where participants can buy and sell items in English; ▲ an English level test for children; ▲ a stamp tour mission adventure; ▲ English board games with native speakers; and ▲ an immigration English experience, among other interactive activities.


On the third day (May 19), from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at City Hall's 1st floor Deullak Nallak, the main conference room, and the lobby, the following family-friendly events will be held: ▲ a "Global Festival Experience" English camp for children; ▲ the Deullak Nallak "Let's Play with English" special program; and ▲ a sing-along English song experience for children with Boogi.


A space will be provided where children can learn English in a playful, hands-on environment.

Nam Jungeun, Director of Youth-Industry-Academic Policy at the city, stated, "We hope that citizens will find English more familiar and comfortable through participation in the 'Enjoy English Week' event," and added, "We will create an environment where not only children but all generations can naturally learn and use English, laying the foundation for Busan to grow as an 'English-friendly city.'"


The city is promoting the "English-friendly city" initiative as a key pledge of the 8th popularly elected administration and is continuously expanding various opportunities for citizens to experience and use English in daily life.
