Volunteer Activities Utilizing Expertise Such as Traditional Korean Medicine Clinics for Local Residents
Dong-Eui University (President Han Su-hwan) held the ‘Dong-Eui Dongrak Project - Parents' Day Event Love孝’ on the 11th at the Gayadong Dasarang Complex Cultural Arts Center.
This event was organized to commemorate the 52nd Parents' Day, to emphasize the meaning of filial piety and respect for the elderly, and to help improve the health and quality of life of local residents through the major competencies of university students.
The event was hosted by the Dong-Eui University University Innovation Support Project Group (Director Jo Jae-kyun) and jointly organized by the Dong-Eui University Regional Collaboration Center (Director Lee Min-hong), Dong-Eui Medical Center, and Dasarang Complex Cultural Arts Center.
Eleven major clubs including the university’s Department of Korean Medicine and the Taekwondo Department demonstration team carried out volunteer activities, Taekwondo demonstrations, and trot performances for local residents.
Major volunteer activities included the Department of Fire and Disaster Administration’s ‘Safety in Case of Fire,’ the Department of International Tourism Management’s ‘Traditional Costume Experience,’ the Department of Clinical Pathology’s ‘Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, and Blood Sugar Management,’ the Department of Dental Hygiene’s ‘Oral Health Management by Life Cycle,’ the Department of Radiology’s ‘Bone Density Measurement,’ the Department of Physical Therapy’s ‘Electrical and Low-Frequency Therapy,’ and the Department of Korean Medicine’s ‘Oriental Medicine Treatment.’
The Department of Human Engineering provided ‘Mobile Phone Usage Guidance,’ the Department of Computer Software Engineering offered ‘Voice Phishing Prevention Education,’ the Department of Leisure Sports gave ‘Home Training Education,’ the Department of Digital Contents conducted ‘Photography,’ the Department of Food Service Management and Dasarang Complex Cultural Arts Center prepared ‘Chinese Food,’ and Dong-Eui Medical Center provided ‘Oriental Health Consultations.’
Additionally, the Dong-Eui University Student Council held a carnation-making event on campus on the 7th and delivered over 700 carnations made by enrolled students to elderly people living alone in Busanjin-gu.
Park Ji-ha (4th year, Department of Korean Medicine) said, “I felt proud that the knowledge and skills I learned at school helped the health of local residents, and I will actively participate if there are more opportunities like this in the future.”
Lee Min-hong, director of the Regional Collaboration Center, said, “This Dong-Eui Dongrak Project is an opportunity for students to learn generational empathy through communication,” and added, “We will prepare various cooperative coexistence activities with the local community.”
